Wow, last night was such a treat. I celebrated my most amazing #winewednesday yet and among quite an incredible group of chefs, restaurant team, winemakers, guests and friends.
The Restaurant at Meadowood, a Michelin three star restaurant located here in beautiful St. Helena, hosted its Second Annual Young Winemakers’ Dinner featuring two of our newest wines: the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Grenache. We took part in an unforgettable evening of creative dishes from legendary Chef Christopher Kostow and fine wines of Napa Valley. Joined in my wine efforts were Matt Iaconis (Brick & Mortar), Mark Porembski and Jennifer Williams (Zeitgeist Cellars), and we did everything we could to compliment the culinary magic.
Sommelier’s Victoria, Benjamin and Martin presented each of our wines according to Chef Kostow’s customized pairing menu. The night started off strong with our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and an avocado oyster borage. We soon found ourselves having anything but breakfast with some scrambled eggs and smoked eel (this literally was the wildcard of the bunch). You need to see the photos to believe how good this was. All dishes were fabulous but to taste our 2013 Grenache with the coal seared foie gras was the icing on the cake. Imagine the foie gras melting on your palate followed by brioche bread toasted in duck fat and finished by a small explosion of cherries, strawberries and spice in the wine and this pairing was unstoppable. I highly recommend trying this sometime soon.
A huge thank you to the entire team at Meadowood and to my winemaking peers who produced wonderful wines and to Chef Kostow and the culinary team for preparing a meal to remember. We stand humbled here at Uproot by the feature and inclusion in such a special kick-off night for Auction Napa Valley 2015!
